This is (in my opinion) the best cartoon I’ve ever done. It’s not the greatest drawing I’ve ever done or the hardest hitting political statement I’ve expressed. I think its greatness comes its simplicity, cleverness and how it totally summed up how all of us were thinking and feeling after the first 9 months of Covid had fucked everything up. The cartoon was a perfect mirror for how all of us felt at that dark and depressing winter moment.
Probably the worst memory I have about 2020 was losing my father in February. His Celebration of Life was scheduled for March 14th (his birthday) and it had to be postponed for another 18 months due to the Pandemic.
My favorite (and most surreal) moment of 2020 was driving my daughter across the United States to start a new job in California after her graduation from Ohio State. She drove our little Honda Fit and I drove the rental truck with all of her belongings. She and I spent 5 days navigating from Indiana to the west coast. That’s a memorable trip under normal circumstances. It’s bizarrely memorable when the country is closed. I will always cherish the weird and beautiful memories of that trip.
This cartoon was one of the few positive moments to end that year for me and it was extremely popular with my readers. One of the additional pleasures this panels gives me is the ability to dust it off each New Years Eve, make a quick update to the year and present it to everyone again. It’s certainly an appropriate message to wrap up 2025 with and unfortunately I don’t see anything on the horizon that will prevent me from posting it again on 12/31/2026.

Your adventure sounds like fun. I'm glad you made it safely. That had to have a lot of photos for later. Now to the clock drawing. I think it has a lot of meanings. My take is the current admin is running out of time. It will be a lame duck soon.
